Keltir stood at the fresh grave of his cousin, Talshin, his pointed cat ears sagging low on his head. His soft, jet black fur soaked up the occasional tear from his brown eyes. Keltir’s wife, Nahlia, stood at his side in silence, her brown, black-spotted tail twitching periodically as she contemplated their next move. For years the three keshatir—the name their feline-esque species had bestowed itself—had worked together to scam the human inhabitants of the keshatir home continent Ketria out of every coin they had. They had begun their “work” in their home country Trinaria, the most northwestern country on Ketria, using simple investment schemes to pull some quick cash. When word got out that they were scam artists, they simply packed their bags and moved on to the next town, bringing their bounty with them. Human towns tended to be far away from each other and rather isolated, so communication between them was poor and there was usually a clean slate to work with in each new town. |
